A love story
Once there was a boy who saw a girl in a pretty dress. He thought she was pretty and he made her smile. They became good friends.
Along came a big kid with shiny blond hair and tanned skin. He tried to talk to the girl and had an eye on her toy ball. The boy didn't like the big kid coming in for his lady or his ball.. and thought he should do something about it......

The recipe for a 1st Birthday Party
First you.....
then you get pregnant...
then you have an adorable baby boy...
then you survive the first year....
then you order balloons and a cake...
then you cram 50+ people in a fairly large room....
one happy birthday song and watch cake get smashed into all areas of face...
What an amazing party and I am so glad that everyone could be there to enjoy it with us. We felt like we planned and planned, only because we changed our minds, then changed our minds but everything turned out perfectly. The one thing that truly made a perfect party was such an amazing location. Big indoor room and a pool right outside for the kids. Thanks to Grandpa Larry we were able to enjoy the perfect party place! On Friday for his real birthday poor Jaxson just watched his parents run errands and slave in the kitchen getting ready for the party. Dave made from scratch 20lbs of pulled pork that was soooo good. The secret ingredient... coca cola. I know weird but it tasted great. He even got asked where he bought it from. :) Along with all homemade mini pizzas... round two since the dogs ate all 24 of them the first time, a ton of fruit salad, and pasta salad, lemonade and iced tea we were set to feed approximately 45 people.

Party time got kicked off with some pool side fun. All of the kids jumped right in, the first Tyler. He promptly did a cannonball splashing on all the sun bathing beauties laying nearby. I contemplated letting them know that their cannonball free, relaxing afternoon was about to be over but I thought I would let them find out the old fashioned way. I don't think they were that excited. The kids got their faces painted and did some water colors with Lauren.. the student teaching art teacher. She is getting some practice before she begins it full time. Jaxson was a little overwhelmed with the amount of people and was a little hestitant to get down and show off his new routine of WALKING around everywhere. He was passed form person to person as he was showerd with happy birthday well wishes. Aunt Lauren and newly official Aunt Anne Barry fed him a few puffs, some fruit and pasta salad while everyone enjoyed the amazing pulled pork.

Then there were presents. Alot of presents! He definately "made out like a fat rat" like my dad would always say while packing up all of my loot. Jaxson wasn't feeling like unwrapping himself, and was mostly interested in a new play car that he continued to fit the entire thing in his mouth. We opened tons of new toys including a motorized 4wheeler that goes a whopping 2 miles an hour from Aunt Beth and Aunt Kyra. His "crazy grandma" ( my mother.. anyone that knows her understands why we say crazy grandma) got him a slide that he loves, and Grandma Elaine got him his very own bubble lawn mower. Mom and Dad got Jaxson a tent city that pretty much takes up the entire living room.

The main event. Happy Birthday dear Jaxson, happy birthday to you.. and cake all over face. I was really hoping he would get cake all over his face, on his hands and hair. Really get messy like any 1yr old should. If he didn't do it on his own I was prepared to help him by placing his face lightly into his cake :) Luckily he didn't disappoint and dove right in with both hands. He was cramming the frosting into his mouth missing much of the time and right into his nose, ears, and face. Perfect.

Whether it was the sugar high or the high energy party that wore him out but as people headed out the door he headed for a good nap. A tired baby, happy guests, and a good clean up crew is the sign of a very successful party.

Thank you to everyone that came and helped us celebrate our first year with our amazing little man. To everyone that couldn't be there I wished you could have but I hope you can celebrate a little with this post and mark your calendars for next year. Bigger and better every year.. that's Dave's style! :)

The Beauty Girl
Michelle Barry (dave's sister) has a friend who has been a beauty editor for top mags for 10 years and has recently started her own website. I just read her recent updates and it is fun to read and interesting topics. Jesse (Michelle's husband) made the logo and it is really neat! If you ladies want some fun reading check it out.

I just signed up and might win some prizes. I doubt I will because I have the worst luck ever but someone has to win right?? You guys can sign up to if you would like to!

Put on your walking boots...
All of the sudden Jaxson began to walk. He let go of the couch and just walked away. To my amazement he took 10+ steps in a row, turned around and came back. This proves my theory that he could walk for awhile but chose not to. This video was taken last night, day three of his walking adventure. Enjoy!!
(P.S. Sorry about the noise in the background. Real Housewives reunion show was on ;) and I forgot to turn it down.. oops)

UNO
My little baby is one today, June 26th. At 1:26 at Mercy he was cried up a storm as they poked and prodded, and wrapped him in a blanket. He had his eyes wide open when he was safely wrapped in a warm blanket and handed to Dave and I. It was surreal to see him as a baby when all I had known was my baby bump, late night kicks in my ribs, and they heavy weight on my bladder 24/7. He was so beautiful with his full head of hair and his big blue eyes. His skin was perfectly pink and soft. I understand now what soft as a babies butt means. All the family that was waiting in the hall came in to meet Jaxson William Paul Barry. I quickly handed him off to the many awaiting fans in the room and jumped at the chance to eat!!

The mystery of '26' continued as we traveled down to our recovery room, number 2026. Our very spacious room, complete with a small dining table and big window, a double memory foam bed and Dave's favorite, a flat screen TV was a nice setting to spend the next few days getting to know our little one. Getting to know Jaxson has not ended over the last year. Once I think I have him all figured out he changes, does something new, or somehow surprises me. His smile can turn a bad day good in a millisecond and his giggle could be bottled and sold to make anybodies day brighter. Music seems to make him happy, I think he may be a musician. Even during the worst of fits track one of his Baby Einstein CD would dry his tears. He loves it when you sing to him and his favorite is playing the piano with Aunt Carol.
With the last year being my best yet with Jaxson and Dave I can't wait to see what happens next year as we will see his ever changing personality. Happy Birthday Baby Jaxson. I love you!

Over the last year we have learned to be parents together and it is such an amazing experience. I am so lucky to be able to have Dave be a part of it with me.

He loves Jaxson with all of his heart and you can see it in the way his face lights up when Jaxson comes into the room.

Even though he had never had much experience with babies he was right there at bath time and diaper changes, burping and rocking to sleep. He has become a master at diaper changes even though it didn't come easy. Dave didn't think it was important to do a practice run because he thought "the directions were on the box." This may still be my favorite Dave as a dad quote.
He loves to make funny songs for Jaxson, there is a new one each day. Of course Jaxson had to have the World Championship Title Belt for WWE Wrestling and will have tickets for the biggest show as soon as Jaxson is of WWE age. I am still unsure on what age that is exactly. Dave is looking forward to reliving his Hulk Hogan days with his favorite side kick, his son.
Dave hears Jaxson at night sometimes when I don't and will stumble into the nursery, change a sleepy diaper, and bring Jaxson to me in bed.
Although his challenges with color (wink wink) he dresses Jaxson in the morning while I quickly get ready on my work days. Sometimes I wonder what made those two pieces of clothing seem like they match but Jaxson and Dave always seem content with the situation.
Dave doesn't want Jaxson to grow up but doesn't want to miss anything as he does. He is a loving father and the best dad Jaxson could ask for.

Father's Day
One year ago Dave was hoping that Jaxson was born just a few days early making Father's Day the best ever. Jaxson didn't follow his fathers requests but came in his own time and was perfect. Although Dave had to wait nearly a year for his first Father's Day I think he would agree that it was worth the wait.
The Iowa Cubs game was the worst idea since it was 95+ and felt like 100% humidty. I spent the majority of our time in the gift shop with Jaxson since our misting fan didn't do the trick. We left in the fourth inning. The best idea of the day was swimming at Larry's condo. This being the second time Jaxson had been in a pool. It took sometime but he ended up loving it!

It's Summertime!
To celebrate summertime we had a few people over for a bbq. Holcomb and Leah of course and Humphreys and Josie also joined. There was enough food for an army and Jaxson learned a few new favorite foods, including watermelon that Leah brought over. The girls + Jaxson chatted in the kitchen while the boys hung out on the deck doing the grilling. They had the hard part because everything else was pasta sides that we bought from HyVee. Dave made tuna and it is the first time that I actually ate a whole one by myself. I have been tuna free since I am still nursing Jaxson, but I have read many times that it is ok if eaten rarely. I can remember the last time I ate tuna in detail. The only reason I can remember it was because I felt bad for it after I found out I was pregnant. Luckily for me the worst thing I ate and/or drank before knowing I was pregnant was a tuna steak. Dave and I went on his company trip to Council Bluffs and for the last night we all went to a very nice restaurant on the water and I ordered tuna. It was very good and if I knew it was going to be more than a year that I would eat it again I would have enjoyed and savored it a little more!

I missed the kiss.. but it happened and was soooo cute!!
