You know its Fall when...

.....Fantasy Football in full swing. This is the first year that Dave has been in a league and he actually put this one together himself. It is full of veterans and rookies so it will be an interesting football season. Dave put together the draft board with six large poster boards all the lines perfectly measured. It was a pretty serious meeting with each guy having their computers in tow along with tons of magazines and printed lists from the internet of all the players ranked from preseason best to worst. A couple players were off right after our draft to another draft and many guys are in up to four leagues. After the 50 buck buy in the winner will win big so hope all your picks are good ones!

To make sure the boys could feed their brains we made two huge subs with lots of chips and dip. The subs vanished by the end of the night. I am thinking our draft day was the best one for their stomachs. Only the best at the Barry's. :)

At the Ol' Ball Game

After our Grey's Lake get together we grilled and then went to the Cubs game along with Elaine, Joe, Joe's son from Omaha, Paul, Katy, Dan and Anne. We had to bundle up since it was so chilly last night. The kids lasted about 2 innings before they were either crying, trying to run away, or bothering those in front of us. Luckily we were in General Admission so those bothered could go sit elsewhere in GA. It didn't take long for Jaxson to have a complete meltdown and I had to take a walk. My walk lasted too long since everyone was looking for me and I didn't have my phone in my pocket. I did have my camera of course so I got a few cute pics of Jaxson while visiting the quiet fountain outside the gates behind the party deck. There was no one around so I was able to sit on the ledge and nurse and rock him for awhile. This worked but as I was walking back to sit down he began to scream again so I figured no sense in sitting back down just to leave again. On our way back to the seat we ran into Melanie and her two boys and husband on the party deck. Jaxson smiled for the first time all night pretty much while playing with Aiden, her three year old son. We finally made our way back to our seats to calm our worried group in the seventh inning just in time to watch Dan catch a foul ball. This wasn't the only big catch of the night. At the beginning of the game Holcomb snagged a tshirt without even standing up. He has gotten alot of practice on his cat like reflexes with the recent two season's of softball. By the end of the night we survived crying babies, flying tshirts and baseballs, mean women calling Tyler a dork, and peanuts being thrown in retaliation. All in all a good night, but it may be awhile before I will want to go again.

A Leisurely Run

Dave and I met Holcomb and Leah ( I know, you would have never guessed it was Holcomb and Leah) at Grey's Lake and the boys went for a run. Leah, the kids, and I played on the swing set while waiting. Of course they wanted to chase the Crane that we saw fishing near the water or play on the slide that was WAAYYY to big for them to go alone. Once the boys were done they came over to us and they did not have a drop of sweat, flushed cheeks, or heavy breathing. They seemed so normal that we wondered if they just went and sat in the car for twenty minutes or so. Seems like this working out is paying off now since they can leisurely run around Grey's Lake two mile course and not even be phased.

Houseguest

Dave's brother Jim has decided to move back from Cleveland to Des Moines and arrived on Wednesday evening. We went right from dropping of his bags at our house to Larry's for dinner. The boys, Larry, Dave, and Dan, all cooked dinner and it was great! Pork chops with perfect grill marks, corn and potatoes. Jaxson decided to make some noise by wearing my shoes around. He thought the click click of the heals were hilarious.



Jim is staying with us for the time being and Jaxson has warmed up to him quickly. It usually takes him a few days but Jax was sitting on Jim's lap playing with the computer mouse in just hours after he arrived. It is nice to have someone to entertain Jaxson while making lunch or taking a shower. Enjoy the pics!

Until Next Year

The fair is officially over. Well, not technically over for about an hour and half but definitely is over for us. We made our trip out to the fair today with Carol and it was our best yet. We did all the fair like things, went to see the photography, the butter cow, ate some food on a stick, and of course a few mullets. I packed a lunch for Jaxson so he didn't get to indulge in something fried on a stick but he certainly shared in a few of the sweets including the pineapple whip, the extremely good ice cream, and funnel cake.

We toured the Paul Knapp Animal Learning Center of course. It is one of the main attractions now. We looked at baby animals of all kinds, ostriches, lambs, cows, pigs, and chicks. Jaxson was thrilled with everything in the learning center.

Little Addison participated in the piggy tail competition which was the opener for the mullet contest. Only at the state fair would you see all kinds of guys in mullets, one sitting in a kilt. Maybe he thought he would get some extra votes if he was in a manly skirt. Maybe.


The midway, the buttercow, and the egg on a stick, everything was a success. Until next year.
