Yes, I do know I live in Iowa and we are lucky if it doesn't flood but I really would love a perfectly damp spring. Last week was perfectly drenched and we once again had a swamp in the backyard. Our house is at a low point and all the houses from all around us drain directly into the corner of our dog area. That presents another problem. We have an area now for the dogs to go from their doggy door, right into the swamp. They then can never come upstairs because outside of being power washed with a hose they are muddy little creatures. We are really getting tired of it and decided to do something about it today. So once again we went and picked up my dad who was willing to help and had some solutions in mind. What we did was dig a sump pump pit in the low point, fill it with a ten gallon bucket and trenches with pvc pipe with holes to drain into the bucket. When it gets really full we will lower a pump in there and get it out. If it is just a minor rain the bucket will slowly dry into the land as the ground water drops. They are changing the slop of the area down there and pouring some new concrete in front of the door to slope away. The last step will be to put thick straw down to try to limit the contact their little feet make with the mud. It won't be perfect but it will A LOT better than the literal swamp we had before.
