Fourth of July

With the Fourth of July weekend behind us I feel like summer is already half gone. They are already talking about the famous Iowa State Fair on the news! We had a great weekend although we didn't do much for the actually holiday, much to Dave's disappointment. We got up at a decent time and completely forgot it was Saturday and missed the Farmers Market downtown. Dave watched Joey Chestnut break the world record and beat the little Asian guy at the Hot Dog eating competition. It was only then that somehow Dave thought hot dogs sounded good for lunch... wonder how that happened? It was also not a surprise that Dave wanted to try to eat as many as he could in a small amount of time. Good job Nathans Hot Dogs, you were successful in getting men all across the states to try to challenge their wives and girlfriends to a hot dog eating contest. :)

We played the afternoon away chasing Jaxson in and out of his playhut and not doing much in between. All the sudden dusk was here and we needed to find fireworks to watch. We found the list on the Des Moines Register and decided to go to Racoon River. We ate a quick dinner, threw some chairs and a blanket ( it was chilly!) in the car and we were off.

As soon as we got there we could see Norwalks fireworks going off so we didnt htink it would be long before ours would start. While we waited we had to deal with pesky little boys throwing those little cracking fireworks at us. Literally at us, a few of them hit us even! They were torturing the people in the Kibos, and there parents did nothing but supply them with more stuff to throw around and be annoying with. :) Twenty minutes later our fireworks started. Jaxson was impressed, oohing and aahh, giggling, and clapping away. It seemed only five minutes after they started they were done. As I looked over, Norwalk's was STILL going, and they were really neat too. The story here is next year I will have to try to convince Leah and Holcomb to have a get together for fireworks at their house... in NORWALK!!

What a great day. It didnt seem like a holiday too much but it was so great to not have anything planned. Dave would have liked that if it hadn't been a holiday. Fourth of July has never really been my favorite holiday but I it got much better this year having Jaxson and watching him have fun with all the festivities. I am sure each year it will just get better as he gets more into fireworks, parades, and bbq.
